Hi all. This weekend I played at Fat Cat's weekly cash Type 1. I've been playing OSE for the past 2 months or so. The deck i played is:

4 Mana Drain
4 Force of Will
2 Misdirection
3 Morphling
2 Powder Keg
1 Gorilla Shaman
1 Merchant Scroll
1 Fire/Ice
1 Recoil
1 Skeletal Scrying
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Mind Twist
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Fact or Fiction
1 Time Walk
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Timetwister
1 Zuran Orb
1 The Abyss
1 Diabolic Edict
1 Teferi's Response
1 Stroke of Genius
3 Island
4 Underground Sea
4 Volcanic Island
3 City of Brass
1 Undiscovered Paradise
3 Mishra's Factory
2 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
1 Library of Alexandria
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Ruby
1 Black Lotus
1 Sol Ring

SB
4 Red Elemental Blast
2 Dwarven Miner
2 Ivory Tower
2 Powder Keg
1 Gorilla Shaman
1 Masticore
1 Anarchy
1 Perish
1 Scrying Glass

Nothing special, just a modified SB for the metagame around here consists of alot of control with a few non suicide, non sligh aggro decks(think r/g, WW etc) My sideboard however is horrible. Normally, all I side in are the REBs, Miners, and Scrying Glass. That's all I normally need though, so I don't mess with it.

This week we had about 15-17 people(I dont remember exactly how many)which is an average turnout. We hoped for more, but 16 people normally make for a good tourney. Anyways, on to the matches.

Round 1 Vs Matt playing U/W/B control /w Mishra's Factories
Game 1: This game we trade blows with some manlands until he plows my factory. Turn 5 i go for ancestral and he gets off Misdirection. So next turn I TD Mind Twist and twist his hand. I will the turn after for the concession.

Game 2: He gets in some hits with Faerie Conclave. I eventually out counter him to get Will, then Morphling on the board, use my Mishra as insurance vs his Edict and win.

Also of interest, this round Bryce AKA AHappyClown gets off a 15 point Stroke. I think he had 21 cards in his hand the next turn or something like that.

Round 2 Bryce playing wOSE
Game 1: Turn 1 I play Land, Jet, Walk, take walk turn, Land Twister drawing walk ;D. I untap, walk, lay land, play Demonic i believe, then untap play morphling which he edicts, then I will, DT for another Morphling, recoil his, then mindtwist, cast morphling and then the game is basically over =\

Game 2: Bryce has control for most of the game, out countering and out threating me. We get into a topdeck war in which I draw a Morphling. Bryce has gotten me to 2 with Mishra's Factories, but he's unable to break through my Morphling + factory to win.

Round 3 Vs Josh playing Turbo land with Trade Routes and Seismic Assault

Game 1: He gets a very good start and I'm unable to put up much resistance, I die a grisly death =[

Game 2: I end up going Turbo-Morphling on him. I use Mishra's Factories and the Masticore I sided in as another threat as bait for his lands/seismic assault. This keeps him low on mana and allows morphling to mop him up.

Game 3: I keep a 2 land hand with 2x Mana Drain, Force, Walk and Demonic Tutor. He drains my Walk to get out Horn of Greed. I don't draw a land and pass the turn. I do this for 2 more turns before I decide to use my tutor to get my library. However, by then, it's too late as he's able to force through a Fastbond. I then die =[
-- This game I think I should have gone for the DT earlier, but he didn't have alot of mana and I was fearful of the Fastbond earlier or worse, another horn.

Round 4 Vs Ryan playing Old School mono black with Scrolls, Big Juggs, Racks and assorted Edicts.
Game 1: He beats me up with a Juggernaut and a Black Knight before I drop a Morphling. I use my Factory to suck up the one Edict he draws and after a bit of dilly dally I win.

Game 2: He lays swamp, Ritual, Duress, Ritual, Juggernaut. I Walk turn 2, drop Sol Ring and Masticore. Masticore takes one for the team, getting Juggs out of the way. I then drop Morphling. He's a bit land screwed(by a bit i mean he hasn't drawn another land) so I beat on him a bit. I cast Mind Twist which hits 3 Racks =P. Morphling mops him up.

Round 5: Josh again. By now it's about 7 and we decide we'd like to go home so we chop up the prize and go home.

Our tournaments are trying a new idea to help some people out who complain about getting "beat by money". We are allowing people to proxy Power cards for a dollar, and any other non power cards for 50 cents. This tournament 3 people proxied, me for a Lotus(which I plan on aquiring) and Matt for Drains and an Ancestral I belive, and someone playing U/G turboland for an Ancestral. The proxy cards did help the players quite a bit, and also made the pot a bit more appealing as a prize. I think that it's a decent idea, but could get expensive for the people who aren't very good, but want to play with the big boys anyways. I'm not one to like to steal from little kids, so i'm still trying to find a fair way to help them out.

I was quite happy with how the deck preformed. Timetwister is quite amazing at times, but at others complete a$$. Since I can't think of anything better for it to become, it stays for the moment. Recoil is incredible. I don't remember what got cut for it, but I don't think I'd miss it any. It's a great way to get a bit of tempo and is amazing when setting up for Mind Twist. It gets pitched alot, but when I do cast it, it's really good.

Thanks for reading and I hope some BD players will make it to the Syracuse Type 1 CASH tourney being held in exactly one week.

A revision to game 2 of our match: I SUCK!!

Seriously, I could have won that game. Here's the scenario:

I sit on Carl for a few turns with active Library, countering threats, edicting a Morphling, etc. and getting him down to no cards in his hand. After having cast three Mishra's Factories I decide to make something happen and tap out to smash his face with them, bringing him to eight. I'm at 3.

He peels WiN and I look at the Mana Drain in my hand and think about how it would be nice to have two blue untapped, but hey it's all good in the neighborhood, since I'll just DT for Edict next turn. I draw my card, which is WiN and look at my one black mana and the Edict in my graveyard. Then I think about how I removed Edict number two for Balance, which wouldn't kill his Cardboard Jesus since I have one of my own in play and I can't kill him(mine). Essentially it would just Mindtwist me. So I cast WiN and hope to Ancestral into Lotus and win. No dice. So I animate my team and swing for the farm. He blocks one, putting him at two. Next turn he makes his Jesus fly, and I look at my one untapped blue, and my tapped Jesus.
Then I scoop.

Moral of the story: I am an idiot.
Moral number two: get more than 5 hours of sleep between work and Magic Tournies.

And I was playing with white because I wanted to show off my recently acquired Mox Pearl and play yet another restricted card. Just for fun. I still think OSE sux with white, but I'm too po to afford the 'r'.

Peace an' hairgrease...

Yeah, he's right. It was so late when I wrote this, I really didn't include anything valueable to read =\.

The topdeck war I refer too was just me trying to top deck, and when I drew will, i was able to use it just to get back Morphling. I possibly could have saved it, but he had Morphling in play(I think, but I know he had out those 3 d@mn Misrha's =\) Bryce attacked me hoping to kill me but I think I had zorb out or a factory to chump with and was able to live. His mistake was not leaving enough untapped to untap/give flying to his morph to be able to live.

Bryce I think you had enough to kill your morphling, but you definately should have waited on that YawgWill. Other than that you played pretty well(not much to be done about those nuts draws w/o FoW)

I promise if I ever write another report, i'll take better notes and make it interesting =[

Just include naked pictures of your mom and it'll be all good.

Seriously though, write reports, they're good times. I'd write a report, but going OH and too isn't all that interesting.
