Quote:Different aggro decks have different personalities, such that each requires a slightly different sideboard strategy. But when we say aggro in Type I, the first thing we have to take into account is mono red Sligh. It's not necessarily the best aggro deck out there, but it's the easiest and most intuitive to build and play.
And, it can pack all manner of Type I hate against blue control elements and nonbasic mana.
Just one thing, and I don't know why I noticed it now: We're on EFnet now, not on Newnet as your sig says.....really good article, like most of the rest of your epic journey throught the misty halls of Type 1 control...keep going
I think that playing against a non-optimal build of sligh in the example was a bad idea. K-Run should have played Dave Price's version. Are you going to highlight other machups in the future? Which?
would someone care to list Dave Prices decklist, if it's not too much trouble
thanks in advance!
Um... would that be the Tempest-era Type II deck from the Sligh primer?
In all fairness, I would have ideally used an optimal Sligh in the examples. A mediocre build doesn't really do the deck justice.
Here's part of a trounament report post from Dave from the end of Feb that I grabbed to use as a playtest deck:
"(Cards you turn 90° to inflict damage)
4 Jackal Pup
4 Mox Monkey
4 Mogg Fanatic
4 Cursed Scroll
(Cards you turn mountains 90° to inflict damage)
4 Chain Lightning
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Incinerate
4 Fireblast(I know, I know you sac the mountains)
4 Price of Progress
(Cards that are restricted for a reason)
1 Fork
1 Wheel of Fortune
1 Strip Mine
1 Mox Ruby
(Mountains and non restricted strip mines)
16 Mountains
4 Wasteland
Sideboard:
4 Pyroblast
4 Red Elemental Blast
4 Pyrokinesis
3 Dwarven Miner
I [Dave] took out the Cadets for Fanatics, since I saw a higher percentage of aggro than control, and it didn't make that much of a difference, it probably hurt slightly more than helped. "

It appears that some people think I'm Dave Price =D. I have a dilemna. On the 27th there is the monthly/bi-monthly $250 T1 @ NG. There is also a JSS in Brooklyn. I'd be playing in both for prize only since I'm already q'd for JSS Champs. The JSS prizes are better, but imo it's harder. It's also harder to get to, but it has JSSers willing to $ draft so.... Where do I go?
Rakso:
Is this what you side in against sligh on a regular basis?
Powder Keg: 2
Cop Red: 2
pyroclasm: 1
BEB: 2
Do you bring in moat against a goblin sligh/ with mishra's?
I would have liked to see a more optimum build of sligh, where reckless charge was a burnspell that did something w/out the creature and that maybe SB'ed 14- 15 cards against keeper (as what happends in my enviornment)
Like POP: 4
Pyro: 4
REB: 4
Anarchy/ scald: 3
And also when you were all tapped out, the WORST thing that i would have feared that would have happened was more like anarcky and POP... especially if you had no other way to fetch the 2nd cop.

Errr...if you want an optimal build then why are you suggesting anarchy?
Anyway, in Raksos example wouldn't pop have won the game right there? I didn't read the logs, only his commentary, but thats what I assumed.

anarchy is good.
just ask K-Run when he is playing parfait

answer this question?
Read?
I'm half-way interested if you got that or not...
but no I'm not going to wade through the logs (your link is missing a "]" at the end btw) just to answer a question I don't care about.
*GASP*!
Wait...this was a sideboarded game, right? So why the hell did K-run leave in those dopey charges?
good point.
The article would have been much better not the game not been sideboarded, as your sideboard cards seriously outmatched his. Powder Keg stopped him from playing Cursed Scroll, which could have drastically changed the game. And as you said, CoP: Red is an "auto-win".
K-Run's SB cards didn't do a whole lot. Price but a bit of pressure on you, but he still would have needed 2 spells in order to deal 7 damage. His REB actaully save you fomr card advantage, this argument could be negated had you mentioned what you were Tutoring for.
I'd also like to point out how much better Scald is in keeper matchups, as it can effectively stop CoP: Red. From the log, REB had one chance to do its thing. One. Scald would have been a constant pain in the side had it resolved.
I realize you want to make Keeper look good (such as talking about the two of the five total games you won against OptimalStompy.dec), but you could have at least used a Sligh deck that wasn't running *Reckless Charge*. :P
I noticed the analogy between the Sligh vs. Keeper match-up and boxing...
But nearing the end of the article, when K-Run went down (Morphling was played and attacking), you counted down from 3.
In boxing, don't they count from 1 to 10 ?
I always thought down from 3 was in Wrestling.
Although I could be wrong.
Rakso's not so much into "sports." :P
Whoops...sorry I confused the Dave's up there..
Dave - if you're looking for a potentially big $ day, then you probably should do the JSS if there are people who will money draft. The NG tourney has a fixed prize (unless you can get side games for money as well.)
