Is this seriuous? Or is it just a printing error, and they mean 20, and 200 cards?

Card Name: Battle of Wits
Card Color: U
Mana Cost: 3UU
Type & Class: Enchantment
Pow/Tou:
Card Text: At the beginning of your upkeep, if
you have 200 or more cards in your library, you win
the game.
Flavor Text: The wizard who reads a thousand books
is powerful. The wizard who memorizes a thousand books
is insane.
Artist: Mark Brill
Rarity: R

Because if it were 200, then I really don't know what happened to Magic if they make such CRAP-rares... It's almost so crappy like wintermoon-Mesa.
Tell me wgat you think...
(note: I got this from the official Odyssey-Spoiler on Wizards.com)

if it were a mistake, you would know that by now.
it's the real deal.

By Silver Dragon (Silverd) on Thursday, October 11, 2001 - 03:05 pm:

I always thought that the minimum size of a deck was 60 cards and the maximum was 120. I must be wrong! Or is this card not legal in tourneys?

By meh on Thursday, October 11, 2001 - 03:55 pm:

there is no maximum deck size in sanctioned play (has there ever been?) nor is battle of wits restricted/banned in any format save 5-color (where it is BANNED, not restricted.)

By Demon Lord Gix on Thursday, October 11, 2001 - 04:17 pm:

that could be a decent card with some tutors.....or not.

By captain on Thursday, October 11, 2001 - 11:53 pm:

I happen to really like this card. It knows itself. Unlike many cards which are only good in limited (most hella' overcosted fatties, a couple of angels from Odyssey sprng to mind), or cards which suck in all formats (much like the earlier mentioned Wintermoon Mesa, or the oft maligned (and with good reason) Pale Moon), Battle o Wits is a fun card.
Its for people who play magic and want to win in a cool manner. It recognizes itself, its not a rare which is only good in Limited (I would really like them to stop printing Limited only Rares (ussually a flying fattie, and never green, green is the home of shitty rares, please WoTC, sharing sucks ass, top making sharing rares for Green, they are not appreciated)), it in fact, sucks in Limited.
It is a constructed card with real possibilities, because it says win the game on it, and I think many fans of multi-player, many casual players will be trying this card out. Sure, it won't make a stop at a pro tour, but its still a card with a potential for fun (this coming from a guy who has never played a non-tournament deck, hell, my first deck ever was a discard deck).
So when I cracked one of these in Grand Prix trial, I was glad. Sure it wouldn't help me win that day, but that was cool, because, at the prerealease I had received 5 crap rares, none of them good in any format, and of my other rares I received 3 crap rares, never to be played and one Limited only rare, Amugaba (Yeah, Green's the creature colour... whatever)

By urzas_mistress on Thursday, October 11, 2001 - 11:55 pm:

this card is a winner in a pale moon wintermoon mesa deck. splash red for goblin game.

it really is a shame that pale moon and wintermoon mesa will cycle out soon.

Urzas mistress: ROFL!

But you forgot the required 4 sorrows paths...

Or the 4 Planar despair! (I got them all 4! *cry*)

By i dont use soap on Monday, October 15, 2001 - 11:50 pm:

battle of wits would be good in a draft deck, because you can usually add as many lands as you want. not only that, but if it's a small place with a limited number of lands, you can finish your deck first, get the lands you need, and there will be none left for the other players! Nwah hah hahahah!!

By Matt The Great on Tuesday, October 16, 2001 - 08:54 pm:

That is the stupidest thing i have ever heard. You would seriously play a deck with 45 spells and 170+ land? Go right ahead.

By i dont use soap on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 - 05:49 pm:

i would use cantrips, and maybe a card to help me get to my battle of wits faster, like diabolic tutor, or whatever. all i have to do is get those two cards, and hope that i draw them. if i don't, i can mulligan!

By i dont use soap on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 - 05:55 pm:

i meant one of those two cards.

By scrubbing bubbles on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 - 05:57 pm:

they should've made battle of wits a 1/1 artifact creature, cause it's so durned powerful, so it should be easier to kill, like the almighty nut collector.

By NaZgûL on Thursday, November 15, 2001 - 08:15 am:

Hey! I got one now! In my second Odyssey booster, I got a BATTLE OF WITS!!! YAAAAHHHHOOOOOOO!!!!!
...ok... I'd better shut up now....
But it was the one card from Odyssey I really wanted to have because it is both so damn crappy and ridiculous at the same time...

By Levin334 on Thursday, November 15, 2001 - 01:01 pm:

A Type 2 Battle of Wits deck made top 8, or close to it, in California.

By Ocifer on Thursday, November 15, 2001 - 01:58 pm:

well.... I'm definetely not sold on this card.
Looks like it's not worth the card stock it's printed on to me.
But... looking back at all the cards we've been given in the past few sets... well think about it.
Gaea's Blessing, Oath of Druids.... I'm sure the list goes on.
I guess it COULD be a viable card... I wouldn't bet on it, but it could.
Hell, I knew wizards was trying to make games longer... but this is getting ridiculous.
PS. Anyone wanna make a 230 card G/u Elf deck with me? lol

By paladin_en_ass on Thursday, November 15, 2001 - 07:05 pm:

hmm.. survival of the fittest + noble benefactor + recurring nightmare + 40 lands + 140 other funky survival creatures ( as in rec/sur )
add a bunch of tutors and voilla you have a deck

By Crimson on Friday, November 16, 2001 - 08:26 am:

I made a type 1 deck around battle of wits with all the good tutors in the game. It seem to work but i am still not sure. you have 1 Demonic, 1 Vampric, 1 Mysrical, 1 Enlightened tutor, 4 Lim Duals Vault, 4 Intuition, 4 Academy Rector, then you use all the free or very cheep counterspells. just make the deck very fast i am not sure how it would do in a tournement but what the hell it would be fun.

Now, the readable version:

By Big Blue on Saturday, November 17, 2001 - 06:55 am:

Fun yes, good no. Unless you don't shuffle properly, than it might be devastatingly good...

The problem is, the larger the deck size the bigger your chances of "bad luck" (like drawing 7 lands/7 non-lands in a row).

By Ocifer on Saturday, November 17, 2001 - 04:14 pm:

Hey Big Blue:
There's a fairly new card, I don't know the name, it reads:
Enchantment: During your draw phase choose either Land or Non-Land. Turn over cards from the top of your library until you reach a card of the chosen type then put that card into your hand and all other cards into your graveyard... or some such thing.
Just thought I'd let ya know.

By sack on Monday, February 11, 2002 - 04:21 pm:

HA, i got this card. frakely i think it sucks cause it is a 1 in a 200 card pop pluse more than that actually.

By Superman on dope (Dope) on Monday, February 11, 2002 - 04:33 pm:

Some dude made the finals at a Neutral Ground tourney with this card. He played a 233 card mono blue deck and managed to beat one of the best Type 1 players of today with it.

I don't recommend playing it at your next tourney though. It's janky ass but funny. :)

By Gzeiger (Gzeiger) on Tuesday, February 12, 2002 - 04:04 pm:

It actually made quite a showing at the last Extended Pro Tour too. I made fun of this card as much as anybody, but it appears to be relatively powerful in an environment with enough search. I doubt Type 2 is it, but when Torment comes legal I have half a mind to try it:
Diabolic Tutor
Tainted Pact
Insidious Dreams (I hate this card)
etc...

By Matti Nuortio (Thaurwylth) on Tuesday, February 12, 2002 - 04:17 pm:

I don't think Battle was played in Pro Tour New
Orleans. However, two players played it in the
San Diego Masters Gateway, going rather well.
I think Matt Linde actually had the chances to
rip through the gateway with it, but he was
dropped in the fourth elimination round by Brian
Davis (ulch) because - in my opinion - he made
a bad tactical call during the match.

Brock Parker played the deck in the actual San
Diego Masters tournament and ended up losing
early. He dropped Alex Shvartsman, though.

Toby Wachter, the arguable father of the deck,
qualified for the Neutral Ground Grudge Match
main event with Battle of Wits.

Someone almost qualified for PT Osaka with an
Extended version of the deck. And expect to see
some Odyssey Block Battle of Wits decks in Osaka.

I hear that the (T2 version of the) deck is rather
good against control decks and can win aggressive
ones if it but manages to stabilize and gain
enough card advantage so that it can find its
solutions to those matchups.

to Gzeiger:

-Planar Portal
-Desperate Research
-Fact or Fiction (not really tutoring)
-Diabolic Intent
-Guided Passage (!!!)

Good luck making a BoW-Deck (remember that half of the tutors remove your library from the game)
