Couples of months ago, i won a tournament held in quebec at CTM store. I often faced K-RUN there. There were about 60-70 competitors. The deck that i used was this one :

http://www.imaginaire.com/ctm/cartes/section_ccg/deck_magic/magic_francois_allaire.htm

The next typeI event will be Saturday the 6Th of april. About the same number of competitors is expected. So i decided to check out if my deck can take it’s revenge.

I modified the deck to make place to my newest aquisitions. Here is the new version that i actually run.

3 mishra’s factory
2 mishra’s workshop
3 undiscovered paradise
1 strip mine
2 wasteland
1 tundra
1 tropical island
3 savannah
3 scrubland
2 bayou
1 tolarian academy
1 mox jet
1 sol ring

1 fact or fiction
1 timetwister

1 regrowth
1 crop rotation
4 birds of paradise

1 demonic tutor
1 vampiric tutor
1 mind twist
1 diabolic edict
1 the abyss

1 balance
1 enlightened tutor
3 swords to plowshares
2 seal of cleansing

1 black vise
1 chimeric staff
2 karn silver golem
4 tangle wire
3 winter orb
2 icy manipulator
2 mishra’s helix
1 zuran orb

sideboard :

3 dodecapod
2 defense grid
2 city of solitude
2 phyrexian furnace
1 tormod’s crypt
3 multani’s presence
2 seal of cleansing

The main focus is between tangle wire and winter orb. There is such a great synergy with these two cards. Tangle wire is not a widdly played card so here is how it works.

Tangle Wire
Color= Artifact Type= Artifact Cost= 3 NE(R)
Text (NE): Fading 4. ; At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player taps an untapped artifact, creature, or land he or she controls for each fade counter on ~this~.

This card gives you permanent advantage. Let me explain for those of you perplexes. The oponent always taps 2 more permanent than you because you can remove a counter before tapping your tangle itself. By the way it gives you time to take advantage of the situation.

Tangle wire does a great job at tapping down permanents and winter orb complement well since it tap lands. A first or second turn winter orb, followed by a tangle wire hurt bad in many deck i faced. Until they have come to a decent solution you’ll be able to play a threat and walk away with victory. But as you know it won’t happen like this all the time.

The way to kill is simple. You get a black vise, a chimeric staff or a karn in play. Then, two options come to you. 1- you tap his/her permanents and attack with karn or staff alone or 2- you turn all your artifacts in creatures and you mass attack. Be sure not to play kran too early, unless it’s really early ( 1st, 2nd turn).
So if the opponent plays stompy or sligh, you don’t want to drop your winter because it will hurt you more than they. Creatures based decks aren’t a problem. They’ll drop your life total early but will be short on ressources when an abyss or a tangle wire hits the table. Against sligh it’s a little bit harder than stompy. But the problem is easily solved by tutoring for a zuran orb. Many burn decks will not support a countinous life gain.

As you can see, the sideboard is mostly oriented against blue. I expect many blue decks like oath, BBS, forbidian at CTM. These decks also are tough matchups to play against. The only thing that help facing counterspell decks is that they’ve probably never faced a deck like this before.

The questions i ask myself are : should i play with only one karn ? should i run birds? And if not, what do i put instead ?

By the way do you think i should put a city of solitude main deck ??

The power cards i have acess to are timetwister mox jet. Mana drains and stuff like that are no problems to found.

Im just waiting for help.

It seems that things like Mishra's Factory and Chimeric Staff aren't that great under Winter Orb, becasue you have to tap lots of lands.

Duress might help aginst blue decks.

Maybe some Argivian Finds? You have plenty of artifacts.

I think you could use a slightly better kill card, though I'm not postive what that might be.

Oh, and Powder keg should definitely help, as it can kill your opponent's moxes, so they can't use that to get around winter orb, and can help you against fast rush decks.

Hope that helps a little, good luck.

Redman, i know that the chimeric staff seems not to go in the deck. But a staff in play with either tolarian academy or karn silver golem will negate the bad effect of tapping a lot of lands.

The duress were in my mind but putting only one is not enough (i think). even with removing the staff, im left with not knowing what else to replace.

If you play this deck someday you'll notice that factories aren't a great problem. Since many cards are artifact, it becomes like a normal land. and it allows you to block early creatures that opponent may have.

Do you think i shoul replace a wasteland with a dust bowl ??? this will add reccurence instead of fast disruption.
any comments are welcome
