This page contains system announcements and information for users.

By Goss Nuzzo-Jones (Goss) on Wednesday, September 27, 2000 - 12:37 am:

Hello all!

We've recently added a Limited Mill to Beyond Dominia. This is for drafting and sealed deck strategy and discussion. We're impementing this board on a trial basis, to see how much interest in the subject there is. Enjoy!

In a fit of...whatever, I have temporarily declared the "Limited Mill" to be the "Limited/Star Trek TNG and Why Decipher Is Better Than Wotc Discussion Mill"

So, I expect all you ST players to come out of the woodworks. Yeah...right.

By Shadow (Shadow) on Monday, December 25, 2000 - 06:56 am:

I would like to wish an official Beyond Dominia Merry Christmas to everyone (if you aren't in my time zone, you must not matter ;).

Happy Holidays! Santa, I want my site's traffic to triple for Christmas.

By Goss Nuzzo-Jones (Goss) on Wednesday, July 18, 2001 - 09:23 am:

Hey all,

Because of a rather severe lack of usage, I have merged the Standard (Type II) Trading Mill, with the Mixed Trading Mill. Let me know if you have any questions.

Later,
Goss

TYPE I ANTI-SPAM POLICY:

I've received numerous laughs and complaints about the recent Negator rash of spam.

Because a lot of people read mainly this Mill and have grown familiar with each other's presence and jokes, people love laughing at certain spammers, especially those named after Magic cards.

Because of this, one "humor" spam thread is usually allowed. One at a time. And it's moved to the archives when it gets tired.

However, it's been noticed that spamming has been going on in other threads. Matt's NG report, for example. Laughing at Legend fantasy reports is one thing, but bitching about one's SAT scores to a population that isn't even 100% American is getting lame.

Because of this, all T1 Clan/account holders are warned that any form of spamming--even in "self-defense" and despite any provocation--will result in summary termination of your user account.

Rakso's judgment; no appeals allowed.

Non-account holders who are spamming run the risk of getting any of their existing and future posts deleted or edited to taste.

Rakso's judgment; no appeals allowed.

Thank you for your understanding.

Seriously, people... if you want to bitch off topic, do it in good taste. (Azhrei, specifically, you've been going a bit overboard lately. Even if you just turned 13, it's not an excuse, boy.)

By Shadow (Shadow) on Wednesday, August 01, 2001 - 04:32 am:

Of course, you could just bitch off-topic on the Rumor Mill, where off-topics are SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

*coughs*

By Shadow (Shadow) on Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 06:10 pm:

Update on various things:

I Did some house-cleaning on the System Announcements.

More importantly, I've rewritten the Rules of Posting and put them on the topics page. Those have been the rules for some time already, I just thought it would be a good idea to list them at the door, so nobody can complain about a lack of clarity.

Current projects Goss and/or I are working on include:

-finishing some web-ware for organizing tournies/minis/league play

-revising the links page so that it is worth something

-fixing the problem that's been preventing Umiak Boyd from updating the Humor Section (expect an update in a couple weeks)

-Touching up the BD layout

-Cleaning up the RPM and 3rd War Mill Planning Board, and constructing the long overdue Somnium Companion

Hope everybody's been having a great summer,
--Shadow

Just reminding everyone...

People are encouraged to join the bdominia mailing list at www.groups.yahoo.com/group/bdominia because it's the "backup" mailing list used for off-site announcements and emergency messages in case of server problems.

Also, for those who haven't found it, check out #bdchat at Newnet for online play, especially for those people flaming about how certain decks suck.

By Shadow (Shadow) on Friday, September 21, 2001 - 10:30 am:

Erm, BD should be working fine now. I hadn't been online for about 1.5 days, so that's why the problem didn't get fixed sooner. Sorry for the inconvenience.

By Shadow (Shadow) on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 06:12 pm:

friggin' quota errors! I dunno how long BD's not been working, but I did something as soon as I got e-mail about it. Should work fine now. Btw, for those who don't know, if you encounter strange error messages while posting, your best bet is to e-mail me or Goss. We're the only ones who can fix a lot of things. Be sure to send the text of the message though (just cut and paste), so we can quickly identify the problem.

Kindly note that the "Casual Mill" has been renamed to the "Type I Casual and Beginner's Advice Mill."

I talked to Shadow, and I noted a problem. The "experienced" players want to discuss certain things on the Type I Mill while less experienced players want to get some tips on their decks, assuming they've read the primers.

Problem is, the Type I Mill is really absorbing too much of the traffic. The Casual Mill is, honestly, supposed to get some of what goes to T1.

A problem seems to be that there's a stigma attached to Casual. It's honestly not supposed to be "Scrub" Mill or anything like that.

The Type I Mill isn't supposed to be elitist, but it can look like that because week after week, it's filled with the "basic" points people like Azhrei and myself have been correcting again and again for the past FOUR years, and it confuses the T1 Mill.

Hopefully, this clears up something for both "experienced" and "beginning" players.

To both, remember... we were all newbies once.

Just wanted to wish a happy Thanksgiving to all ze Americans out there (and, in case my history has failed me, anybody else who celebrates it).

By Shadow (Shadow) on Thursday, November 22, 2001 - 01:22 pm:

I fixed the topics page. It is now 5% more funny. Thank you.

By Rakso, Patriarch & Rules Ayatollah (Rakso) on Friday, November 23, 2001 - 11:56 am:

The Limited Mill has disappeared from the main page, but it is here.

By Rakso, Patriarch & Rules Ayatollah (Rakso) on Sunday, November 25, 2001 - 12:29 am:

USER ACCOUNT ANNOUNCEMENT

1. Existing Type I Mill users who have not yet e-mailed me for "Type I Clan" password accounts, kindly do so. It's easier for me to keep track of you if you do.

2. Existing users who have not yet signed up at www.groups.yahoo.com/group/bdominia, kindly do so as well or you will not receive announcements during emergencies and server shutdowns.

3. Existing user accounts that have not been used in months may be deleted soon.

By Shadow (Shadow) on Sunday, November 25, 2001 - 12:52 am:

Some unknown portion of uu.net subscribers may find themselves temporarily unable to access BD. This is an ironic announcment, because none of those people will be able to read it. Sigh.

ACCOUNTS SUSPENDED INDEFINITELY:

*test message*

Hmm, looks like that was another stupid quota error. Maybe someday I'll try to fix that bug. *cough*

By Shadow (Shadow) on Sunday, December 16, 2001 - 09:47 am:

Okay, maybe I haven't made this clear before (though its posted at the top of the front page, where it says "Rules for posting on Beyond Dominia "), but DO NOT DISCUSS BD POLICY ON THE BOARDS.

This goes for everybody. There's a reason for this, honestly. If you post stuff on the boards, we have a hard time helping you, because twenty other people want to come out and suggest what they think we should do, and if one of them randomly comes up with what we actually are going to do, then it looks like that person has the "ear" of BD, or something. We also can't be as candid on the boards, because we're trying to piss off as few people as possible.

If you have a problem. If your post gets deleted, or moved, and you don't know why. If you have a suggestion. If you find an error. E-MAIL A MOD, AND/OR ME. DO NOT POST IT ON THE BOARDS.

If you follow this simple guideline, your problem will be resolved rather than mulled over and bitched about. There is also a much higher probability that you will be satisfied with the resolution.

Here's another good reason not to post this stuff on the boards: I'm, like, gonna delete it.

By Rakso, Patriarch & Rules Ayatollah (Rakso) on Sunday, December 16, 2001 - 02:35 pm:

Incidentally, complaining about or comparing the policy of OTHER forums here is even more moronic.

By Shadow (Shadow) on Tuesday, February 05, 2002 - 11:37 pm:

Updated the primers, which is to say I moved them around. Moved some links from top of t1 mill page to bottom of t1 primers page. Also grabbed some of them off of the old server which, for some reason, they were still residing on.

By Shadow (Shadow) on Wednesday, February 20, 2002 - 01:38 pm:

Added a sidebar link ("Edit Profile") to the user account editor. Use that to change your password or e-mail on your registered account, if you have one.

Also updated the Contact page and the front page, to reflect staff changes (some recent and some ancient *shadow is lazy*)

By Shadow (Shadow) on Sunday, March 24, 2002 - 12:59 pm:

Okay Ladies and Gents (and Brimstone),

I have disabled the disk quota-check that his been causing the site to go down all the time. I can't guarantee that this will work, because there is something funky going on with our server which we will probably discussing with our webhosts. Since I disabled the quota check, I decided it would be a good idea to put a limit on message sizes. The limit comes out to something like 5000 words. If you need more than that, uhhh, post in seperate messages. Before people start shouting at me about primers, the limit is much much much higher for mods (though there's still a limit).

Hopefully this will take care of things, and I'll stop having to log onto the admin every six hours to reactivate the site.

Please note that the Type I Mill is temporarily requiring passwords.

A number of complaints have been received regarding the incessant spamming of Edward Paltzik aka Legend and Yan Margolin aka Negator. They have also been sending hate mail and spam to a number of visitors.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Riiiiight....

You guys seem to be awfully surly today.

I guess it's true that women who spend a lot of time together in close quarters eventually see the timing of their periods synchronizing.

Must be the pheremones.

This was pointed out by a known female regular of the Type I Mill.

Please be reminded that Beyond Dominia does not tolerate sexism in any form. Please be respectful to the few female visitors.

Chivalry better not be dead around here...
