May's MsotM

    Magic: The Internet Club

This month's MsotM is Magic: The Internet Club. This site has plenty of good stuff for the Magic fan; However, the biggest feature of this site is its trading section. Magic: the Internet Club has a decent Trading section where you can safely trade with other people. They claim that they never had a bad trader yet. This probably can be attributed to the fact that you need to become a member to trade, but hey, at least becoming a member is free.

In addition to the trading sections, Magic: The Internet Club has a unique page that we found quite entertaining... their Magic Quiz game, and their Magic "Memory"-like game. Both are humorous, and well worth a look.

Every site has its faults, and unfortunately, the Magic: The Internet Club has plenty. My biggest problem was that the site took forever to load pages... I found myself twiddling my thumbs more than I was browsing the site. This probably could be attributed to two factors... first, the site is hosted on GeoCities. I'm not trashing GeoCities; they're a great service for hosting personal homepages, but they simply suck for hosting larger sites. Their server is slow, and during peak hours, it can be difficult to connect. The second reason why the pages took forever to load is that the graphics are just too large. Yes, they look great, but a 40k Magic graphic on the main page is slow by itself, and becomes a crawl when it's being served by GeoCities.

There's three other significant problems in otherwise a fine site... (1) the frequent spelling errors. (2) the broken links and scripts (at the time of writing, the NetBrowser script was buggy, we found broken links off the main page, and the link to us was old!! ; ) And finally, (3) the music. Call me whatever you want, but I believe that if I want music when browsing, I'll turn on the radio or the stereo.

Don't let the problems discourage you; Magic: The Internet Club's unique features makes this page quite "bookmarkable". Check it out for yourself!
