The Trading Post Reconstruction Forum

WELCOME to Beyond Dominia's Trading Post Reconstruction Forum!! This forum was created in an attempt for everyone to collaborate in an attempt to solve the recent rash of thieves in the Trading Posts. Also, discussion on how to how to improve the overall Trading Post system is encouraged.

First, here's the background of the Trading Post...

  • December 1996 -- the Beyond Dominia Trading Post comes online
  • March 1997 -- the first incident of "bad traders" occurred, namely "Dan" and "Matt". We managed to "persuade" both of them to return the stolen cards
  • April 1997 -- Cole Iobst is the next person to steal from people. His situation is unique; he traded fairly with some people, but then would turn around and rip other people. We managed to make him give back some of the cards, but not all. He is currently banned from Beyond Dominia.
  • August 1997 -- Jason Tompkins, of Fredericton, Canada, causes huge problems by stealing over $700 worth of cards from around a dozen people. His case is extremely tricky; he had been trading fairly for months, and built up a decent reference list. He then turns around and steals from all these people, including one victim who traded previously with him! Combine this with two other small possible bad trader cases, and we have a problem now...
  • So what should we do? We've put a halt in all trading in an attempt to rectify this situation, although compared to the Usenets, we've had an amazingly low "bad trades" ratio. In the meantime, please post your ideas on what you think we can do to make the Trading Posts safer!

BTW, our opinion is that the Jason Tomkins case is the most difficult to prevent. When someone is determined to steal, it's extremely difficult to stop them!
