Stretching Dominia Dollars, Part IV
Chronicles - 125 reprints from Arabian Nights, Antiquities, Legends & The Dark

If you missed the first 4 M:TG booster sets , Chronicles may be your last chance at cards once they are beyond our financial reach. Get them while you can... they won't be available forever.

Since I received such positive response concerning the dozen best cards in Fallen Empires - see last month's issue -, I've decided to do the same for Chronicles. I'll list them in alphabetic order and include the card's name, what set they came from, how rare they are in Chronicles, why I like them, and maybe a small expression of emotional joy.

Here's 12 reasons for buying Chronicles booster packs.

Blood Moon - DK - U1 - I love to turn your non-basic lands into mountains just so I can ruin your plans and attack with my mountain walkers. AWESOME DUDE!

Erhnam Djinn - AN - U3 - One of the most played type 2 killer deck creatures ever printed - NUFF SAID!

Feldon's Cane - AQ - C2 - Shuffle your graveyard back into your deck. YES SIR!

Fountain of Youth - DK - C2 - A few extra points of life might just mean you win - OH BABY!

Gabriel Angelfire - LE - U1 - A 4/4 creature with Flying or First Strike or Trample or Rampage 3. Slap on a Lure and try Rampage3 - HUBBA HUBBA!

Hell's Caretaker - LE - U1 - I like trading my little creatures for big ones you thought you saw the last of. - SUPER DUPER!

Jalum Tome - AQ - U1 - Sometimes you need a different card then what's in your hand. GEE WHIZ!

Land's Edge - LE - U1 - Every time anyone discards a land their foe gets 2 pts of damage. I saved extra land. Why didn't you? GOSH ALMIGHTY!

Safe Haven - DK - U1 - All those creatures of mine you killed...THEY'RE BACK. HEE HEE HEE!

Sol'Kanar the Swamp King - LE - U1 - A 5/5 creature & you gain 1 life when you cast a black spell. W O W !

The Wretched - LE - U1 - A 2/5 creature & I gain control of anyone dumb enough to block him. TOO COOL!

Witch Hunter - DK - U3 - Just tap her to do 1 point of damage or pay a few white and make your opponent put his/her creature back in their hand. HEE HAW!

Hope you agree with most of that list but guess what...here's an even bigger list.

HONORABLE MENTION - Cards so good I understand if you think they belong in the top 12. Why an even longer list? BECAUSE CHRONICLES HAS SO DARN MANY GREAT CARDS! The real question is why don't you have these yet.

First - all 5 ELDER DRAGONS - YA GOTTA LOVE EM - 7/7 with special abilities & some of the best artwork.
Alladin - The artifact stealer.
Angelic Voices - +1/+1 for white & artifact decks.
City of Brass - Any color mana when you need it.
Craw Giant - Tough Guy with Trample & Rampage 2.
Dakkon Blackblade - */* = # of lands you control.
Dance of Many - Clone your tough guy already in play.
Johan - If he doesn't attack, your other guys attack without tapping.
Juxtapose - Trade your best creature & artifact for his/her better ones.
Nebuchanezzer - Even if I guess wrong I still get to see your hand.
Rabid Wombat - The king of enchantments.
Serpent Generator - More creatures & they're poisonous too.
Storm Seeker - Make them pay for those cards still in their hand.
Teleport - Ever want an unblockable creature?

I almost forgot... Which Chronicles card gets the award for best art -- a feature some of us collectors consider very important. Hands down winner for scariest art is...

Dandan - AN - C1 - Just a 4/1 with Islandwalk but check that art! Where did those fishermen go? Or should I ask...just who was fishing for who! (grins)!

For now it's obvious the best buy is still found in booster packs. If you're worried the Wizards might keep raising the price of boosters, remember what the famous Wizard's Goblin Accountant said, "Der's only 3 kind of people in dis world, dem dat kin kount and dem dat kan't."

See ya next month when I take a break from the set by set approach and Yell... GOLD RUSH! Just which of all those Gold colored cards are the best buys.
