DCI: Ruining the Game for the sake of the Gamers What the &*%# does Duelists Convocation International think they are doing? (Now there's a way to start a sentence!) What have they been smoking lately? I for one was against the restricting of many cards in the type ][ environment. Now, they ban all restricted cards? As of late, it seems to be the trend that DCI is butchering the Type ][ environment. Balance, Ivory Tower, Land Tax, Black Vise? Are these really that powerful? Can you say Disenchant!? Yes a simple card that can, for two mana, remove all of the afore-mentioned cards before they become a liability. Enchantment and artifact control aren't really all that rare. Many of the better decks concentrate on threat elimination. DCI says that the ability to swing a game with a single card introduces too much chance into the game. Can you say counter spell? Sideboard? How about a better deck? The chances of drawing a counterspell with all the different kinds (of counterspells) is much greater than drawing a restricted card out of 60 others. How can we remedy this? Type 1.5 There has been much talk lately concerning the introduction of a type 1.5 tournament environment. Essentially this means an environment whereby only certain cards are allowed. Only certain cards are restricted, and only certain cards are banned. Um..didn't we do that already? Yes we did, and as I recall it ran away with itself and sparked many of the arguments hovering over Magic today. Even if this proposed environment was instated, who would run it?? DCI?? We already know that won't work -- remember, we tried. So who then, should be responsible for this new world, this undiscovered land, this raw new paridise? Easy...me. Why I Should Run DCI I should run DCI because, simply put, I can. Not only could I do it better, I'd make DCI a lot more popular with the gamers than they are now. And man do they need popularity. It's about time they put someone in charge who is in touch with gamers and not some spokesperson saying "we thought there was too much luck involved" Hi. I'm earth. Have we met? 60 cards in a deck. Maximum of 4 of each card. Every card you draw is luck! No card is useful every time you draw it! Maybe they should restrict every card. That would reduce the amount of luck, right? Luck be a Lady What is it with DCI's inane fear of luck? It's a card game. Limiting the number of cards, limiting the number of colors, shuffling? These are all mechanisims designed to increase the randomness and luck factor of the game. It doesn't take away from game play, it adds to it. Personally, if I knew what my next card was all the time it would reduce the luck, and the fun. Why don't they ask the gamers before they decide. They should hold worldwide votes when they make a big move. The gamers should have the ultimate descision, not the executives. What part does WotC have in all this? WotC: To reprint, or not to reprint? WotC has a pretty sweet setup. They don't want a card in type two, they don't put it in the next set. They sit back while DCI takes all the flak for the restrictions. Now I hear that they won't be reprinting sengir vampire, lightning bolt, or serra angel? Why? Are they just saving DCI the trouble of banning them? For many of the lower level gamers they are the last line of defense against the gamers with the ridiculously expensive cards. Your opponent lays a 3/3 creature that's been out of print since before you were born? Zot it with a bolt. He gets a 3/4 flyer out first turn with black lotus and moxen? Lay a sengir second turn with couple of dark rituals, or mana vaults. These common "power" cards belong in the game for the sake off the newer generation of gamers, and a level of balance among the new and old gamers. I want You! If you would like to sign my on-line petition to restrict DCI's power over the average gamer, and leave big decisions to the gamers themselves, than sign up under my post in the strategy mill. You'll find it under **DCI Petition** on the board (Editor's note : Beyond Dominia neither supports nor is against this petition. We are neutral. We have no opinion. We are the Borg, you will be assimilated... oops, sorry, got carried away there...).
