With the advent of Visions, a new creature type has appeared: Chimeras.
At first glance, Chimeras don't appear too impressive. A 2/2 for 4? Not a
good deal. Toss in one of the major special abilities (flying, first strike,
doesn't tap to attack and trample)? OK, but not great. Give it the ability to
sacrifice and give a +2/+2 counter and its special ability to a fellow Chimera?
Now, you have possibilities there...!
Is a Chimera about to get bolted, balled, or incinerated? Sac it, and
pump up another one of your Chimeras. Combine this with the greatest creature
recycler in existence, Bone Harvest, and there is one nasty recycling plant in
process. Get a bone harvest in hand, and sac a couple Chimeras, and buff up
one or two in play. Run out of Bone Harvests? Then recycle everything with
the (non-restricted in T2) Feldon's Cane.
By themselves, the Chimeras are merely a cute idea. This is where another
intesting card from Visions comes in: Helm of Awakening. This unassuming
little card opens up all sorts of possibilities for
artifact decks. For a measely 2 generic mana, this little artifact causes all
spells to cost 1 generic mana less. With the four of these in this deck, you
can churn out Chimeras for free. Combined with the Howling Mines to get
Chimeras as quickly as possible, you have a Chimera-churning machine one your
hands. Toss in the ever-cheap Phyrexian War Beasts and Dark Rituals, and you
have a FAST Chimera-churning machine.
But, like every deck, this one can get slowed down. Don't have the
Howling Mine or Helm of Awakening you need? This is where the
easy-to-abuse Vampiric Tutor comes in. As an instant, for B, search your deck
for ANY card, and put it on the top of your deck. Instant solution for all
problems. As always, try to tweak this deck to suit your specific gaming tastes. Maybe a Jayemdae Tome to speed up card acquisition even faster? How about something like the Hive to use your mana on when all your creatures are free? You decide.
