Dominia Register #5
This is the hardest issue I've ever written. First thing I must do is tell why
this is a final issue. I've watched my friends quit Magic 1 by 1 starting
shortly after Ice Ages appeared. In 2 months Garrett, Todd, Dan, Daniell, Jay
Peter, Joe, Ken and my best friend Jim have all quit. I am now the sole Magic
player and there's no one to play! Asked why they quit there is one common
answer...they are tired of pouring money into it. The wizards are publishing so
much they can't and won't keep up with the game anymore. Instead they are all
moving on to other things. Computer games and roleplaying being the
prime winners of their time and money. And lets face it, friends come before
any game. This Saturday I will end up at Dan's playing a Ratling mercenary
who rides a trained War Boar and is out to save the world from evil forces.
Based on Thystra, a G.u.r.p.s. world found at
http://www.spiretech.com/~marawuti/wulfhtm/thystra.htm .
But until Saturday...let me spend a few more minutes on my favorite game....
Magic: The Gathering.
FEEDBACK : Only 1 writer, but he wrote twice. First he sent me a note telling
me all about his Rainbow Sliver deck that was winning 9 out of 10 games.
The note was well written and could have very easily been an article here
in Beyond Dominia. If you have a deck that wins most of the time, document
it as best you can and send it in. In his second note he wanted to know what
I was doing with my rainbow sliver deck. Unfortunately I had to tell him I
had turned to 2 color sliver decks and let the Queen go! But I guess now with
no one to play....I'll never know if I made the right decision or not!
LIST OF THE MONTH : A lot of newbies have written to thank me for sharing my
knowledge in a lot of ways. One of my prime sources of Magic knowledge is the
web. So here is a list of web sites you should be checking with regularity,
after reading Beyond Dominia. Bookmark them!
With each new set from the Wizards I get official accurate card lists:
http://www.wizards.com/Cardlists/Welcome.html
When I need a specific list or to check the text on a specific card:
http//mox.perl.com/deckmaster/
When I finish reading Beyond Dominia I check the other e-zines:
Vault Magazine at - http://www.vaultmag.com/
Crypt Magazine at - http://www.mtgrealm.com/crypt/
The Dragon Gazette - http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Cavern/3796/
LOD Magazine & more- http://www.planeswalker.com/lod/index.htm
The Dark Heart.....- http://members.aol.com/gossnj/DHW.html
The Magic Dojo - http//www.thedojo.com/index.html
The site for connections to other M:tg sites besides the ones I bookmark:
http://www.swiss-magic.ch/resource.html
The last site added to my bookmarked Magic related sites:
http://www.manavault.com/
There you have them. My top 10 Magic sites on the web. Enjoy!
STRONGHOLD: As promised last month..here's the four cards I consider great.
- 1. Sliver Queen - a 7/7 for 5 is a multiplayers dream come true. The mana
requirement is manageable.
- 2. Pursuit of Knowledge - any card that in combo gives you a card advantage
works well and often wins in both duels and multiplayer games.
- 3 & 4. Bottomless Pit & Grave Pact - Two black cards to be played together.
Create a world with graveyards full of creatures. Add cards like Ashen Powder &
Shallow Grave to recruit from the graveyards. Add Nekrataals,Walls of Souls and
Revanants to get what would have been my next butt kicking deck.
-
- Now here's a quick list of 6 almost great cards. If nothing else they are all
worth testing.
- Awakening - it's always fun to change the game rules.
- Evacuation - Been times when it would have saved my butt.
- Mana Leak - the extra 3 mana charge is M A R V E L O U S !
- Rebound - sounds great for the multiplayer game political environment!
- Rolling Stones - who hasn't wanted to try an all wall deck.
- Tidal Warrior - The merfolk are back. Seasingers work. WOW! And this would be
my opportunity to bring back my Vodalian Knights the card with my favorite
artwork. Damn. Maybe Jim would play one more game....
Well here I am at the end of my column's last issue. I have a million things I
never got around to doing. Perhaps someday I'll talk one or two of my friends
back into playing. Perhaps some day I'll be back here in Beyond Dominia.
Stranger things have happened.......
Thank You - Dave
