Deck Design 101 #5 Wizards of the Coast has been releasing a new form of Fog in every set, and now it has reached a critical level! This deck is simply called The Fog, and it is simply amazing. To start off on making this deck I rounded up all sorts of Fogs. There's Fog, Respite, Spore Cloud, Undergrowth, and Constant Mists to choose from, so I threw in 4 of each. Next I needed some kind of support. If I can get out a lot of land, I can support the Constant Mists until I win. Land Tax works fine. And where ever there is Land Tax in extended, there has to be Scroll Rack. That should get me more Fogs and a lot of card advantage. So far, the deck looks like:
Sylvan Library and Pursuit of Knowledge are two more great ways to get me what I need, and when used together, they give me 7 cards in one turn. Now all I need is some way to stay alive. Two Gaea's Blessing should do the trick. I threw the deck together and started playtesting. Let me tell you, it was awful. Time to tweak it. First of all, 20 fogs are a little too much. If I want to get competitive, and show the world that Fog is broken, I have to lessen it a little. With all these card drawing utilities, I can get a Constant Mists going easily without everything else. I dropped the Fogs down to 16 by getting rid of all the Undergrowths. Sure I could have gotten rid of Fog instead but what's the point of Fog Beatdown without the Fogs? Next I added in some Aura of Silence and Disenchants. Cursed Scroll is devastating. I also added in 2 Wrath of God because of any those annoying creatures that hurt you without attacking. Enlightened Tutors get me what I want, so I put in three. Now the deck looks like:
I put in the Gerrard's Wisdom because I always have a large hand, and I need life against severe burn and Cursed Scrolls. For sideboard I need more burn kill, more Cursed Scroll kill, and more Wrath of God. It looks like:
That's it for The Fog deck. Now we all have to go build it and change everyone's opinion about the most broken card there is: Fog! Please direct any comments or questions to s***a@m***a.com.
