Coinflipper's Revenge

This is no first-turn kill deck. This isn't even an eighth-turn kill deck. However, it's a deck that's extremely fun to play. It all started when a friend of mine said, "You always beat me 'cause you're lucky". So I decided to build a deck to emphasize this, and still had a fair chance to win. It is in Standard (type II) format, and I'm sure you could add many cards that are still in the theme and help the deck win. I'm just far too lazy to do that for you. Here's the deck, along with card explanations:

4x Chaotic Goo
4x Goblin Bomb
2x Booby Trap
2x Game of Chaos
3x Wild Wurm
3x Desperate Gambit
4x Orcish Captain
1x Maraxus of Keld

This is the core of the deck, with all the good coinflippers I remembered. Booby Trap is not obvious, but it has a high random factor. Chaotic Goos are really cool, but you shouldn't bet too high and let them flip every turn: when they reach 4/4 or possibly 5/5 stop flipping unless you have a good reason to do so. Goblin bombs are pretty self-explanatory. Wild Wurms and Desperate Gambits are cards that regulate the balance between too cool ( a 5/4 for 4 mana or a double damage effect) and too crappy ( a creature that returns to your hand and an effect that prevents all damage from a source you control) with a coin-flip effect that makes them good choices only half of the time. I included only two games of Chaos because I believe they are too unbalancing if the opponent is winning heavily. The Orcish Captains are there to pump your Orcs and to give the deck that fast touch that may save it if an Earthquake doesn't show up early in the duel. The big Keld guy is there in only one copy (duh, he's a Legend) just because when I read his flavor text it made me think of this deck: "I have no master. I am Chaos."

2x Hammer of Bogerden
4x Kindle
2x Incinerate
4x Ironclaw Orcs
3x Earthquake

These cards are not in the theme, except the Kindle, that begs for an opponent playing with it and letting you cast a 10-point 2-mana instant, but they help the deck so I included them. The Orcs are there to be pumped by their Captains.

20x Mountain
2x Ancient Tomb

I put the Ancient Tomb just to help cast the big stuff earlier, paying a small price.

4x Nevinyrrals Disk
4x Havoc
4x Pyroblast
3x Boil

The sideboard is against most deck types: Disks against the Marogeddon or Winter Orb, Pyroblast to let your important stuff enter the game past blue's counters, Boil to annihilate a blue deck ( if it goes through its defense), Havoc against fast white to provide good targets for Disenchant, thus letting Bombs and Traps survive (this wont happen too often, unfortunately).

Remember that this deck is just designed to play with friends and for fun, not for tournaments! Even the sideboard is pretty useless, since you will generally use this deck, as I did, during lunch breaks against a few friends. Try it in multi player, it is even more fun (especially in prey games). Other options for cards are:

  • Pallimud (this ones a big one, and has a good ability that can still go in the random category, thus making it acceptable for this deck;
  • Teferis puzzle box: I love this card, even if it makes a pretty useless effect (in my humble opinion), since the name is too cool.
  • Altar of Dementia: This card has no meaning in this deck, but the name in crazy enough to earn a place in it;
  • Magmasaur: instead of earthquake, it makes quite the same effect, but 1) It's a big creature 2) Its surname of Walking Earthquake sounds crazy enough to include;
  • Furnace of Rath: this one is an interesting bet: either your opponent gets a big advantage from it, or your Booby Traps become even more deadly and he gets a big goose egg.
  • Have Fun!!!

    PS:E-mail me for comments or other weird ideas- I love them.
