Creatures From the Crypt

Remember last month when I said that our deck draining days are over? Well, I was only half-lying. This month you will be draining a deck. But it won’t be your opponent’s. You will be draining your own deck for an essential component of your win: creatures.

This will be accomplished mainly with the card Breathstealer’s Crypt. This card makes all players pay three life when they draw a creature or discard that creature. To make this go faster, we can add in Teferi’s Puzzle Box. (At the beginning of each turn, each player takes the cards in their hand, puts them on the bottom of their deck, and draws the same amount of cards from their library.)

This strategy might benefit your opponent at first, since they will be getting to their power creatures faster, but after the first assault, you should have the advantage. You’re probably wondering why you’re discarding creatures in the first place. The card that can deal some heavy damage to the opponent with a grave full of creatures is Haunting Misery. (take any number of creatures from your graveyard and remove them from the game. The number you remove is how much damage your opponent takes.)

This shouldn’t take too long if your opponent has paid life for creatures several times. You also want counterspells for enchantments and for other counterspells. And let us not forget that Prosperities will make both decks go at lightning speed, so that the opponent will have to pay in spades for any creatures he wishes to remain alive. In case you are in a fix, a well timed Blossoming Wreath can get you out of a heap of trouble.

The next thing you will need are some graveyard-oriented creatures. These could be Carrionettes, which can help get a pesky creature out of play, Barrow Ghouls and Circling Vultures will have plenty of fuel, Sage Owls can give you a needed card, and Bottle Gnomes are good for life and defense. For added speed, Diamonds and Blood Pets are included. In case you ever need a creature, Necromancies are included.

The final version of this deck will look like.
