Deja vu? Too bad for you

In my last article, I covered the issue of deck draining through the infamous Shocker. This time, the method of destruction takes the form of a more traditional deck: the blue-white control.

Most of you will probably say, "Oh that?! That wouldn't let me cast my Shocker? How dare you!!!!" Still the fact remains that any combo is at less risk when you have a card that can stop anything your opponent throws. And I'm still not abandoning my deck drainer idea! (In fact, I have one more after this one, tee hee...) So without further ado, I ask you this question, "What is the card that lets you drain an opponent's library with the flick of a creature?" Altar of Dementia, that's what! What's a cool flying recyclable creature that will go with this? Avenging Angel. With this combo, you can instantly have 3 cards in an opponents library go bye-bye every turn! However there are two problems.

The first is, "How can you draw any other cards if you are drawing the angel every turn?" Well, the answer is that you can't unless...you put in an old classic, the Howling Mine -- the more you play, the more you draw! And who doesn't love an artifact that is able to be used by both players, but that your opponent's afraid to use because it drains more of their cards from their library, namely Well of Knowledge. Unfortunately, your opponent will have some time to get his offense moving which brings me to my second question, "What about defense?"

This is where the control aspect comes in. What are the two best aspects of control? 1: Countermagic: The spells that stuff an opponents stuff before they materialize. 2: Stuffage: The spells that stuff an opponents stuff after they materialize.

I think the cards that do this well are; Grindstone, Counterspell, Ertai's Meddling, Disenchant, Pacifism, Dismiss, Power Sink, Abeyance, Master Decoy, Empyral Armor and the little Sage Owl. For a little added insurance (I know people say life gaining is bad, but who can resist just a little?) I'll throw in Gerrard's Wisdom.

Therefore, the final deck will look a little something like this:

4 Avenging Angels main
3 Altar of Dementia combo

3 Howling Mines card
3 Well of Knowledge drawing
2 Sage Owl and deck
2 Grindstone manipulation

2 Empyral Armor life and
2 Gerrard's Wisdom creature strength

3 counterspell
3 Dismiss counter-
2 Power sink magic
2 Ertai's Meddling

2 Abeyance
3 Disenchant stuffage
3 Pacifism
2 Master Decoy

2 Lotus Petals
2 Thalkos Lowlands
2 Adakar Wastes
1 Wastelands mana
1 Pearl Medallion
1 Sapphire Medallion
7 Island
7 Plains
