by Da Sarge Magic: A Time To Think... In last month's article, I did not bash WOTC for a reason. I wanted people to think about the differences between Portals and Weatherlight, and for them to really see what WOTC is doing on the business of Magic. I was not shocked by the mail I received, but at the feelings behind it. People were not just mad, they were furious. The players understand what WOTC is doing and they are not happy. I am not just talking about the USA here. I received mail from Spain, Hong Kong, Germany, and the Land Down Under just to mention a few. One opinion in the minds of players is clear. People feel they are being taken advantage of by WOTC. I have found that for every person that agrees with me, there must be another that doesn't. Every month there are a few that disagree with me, and that is good. But this month nobody at all was opposed to my opinions, which was very unusual. I began thinking about what this means. What if no one does think I'm wrong? Or at worst, what if only 80% of the people agree with me? This means two things:
Why do I say statement "B", you ask? Some of the people that wrote to me told me that stores where they buy cards are not ordering a lot of packs of Portals. In fact, some stores aren't even ordering Portals unless someone asks for it, and then they will place a special order. It seems to me that some stores are afraid they will lose money on Portals if they order it in bulk. Seems like some good business thinking on the part of certain businesses in the USA. Can you blame them? Many Magic players are insulted by Portals. They feel it is just another way to get money. But I think that WOTC may have made a big mistake, and doing something that will make the players and store owners finally fight back. The thing that puzzles me the most is the fact so many people agree on the same concept, and WOTC still makes such stupid decisions. Do they even know what the players feel or think? I think we (the players) need to make our voices heard to WOTC. What I would like to do is to write a letter to WOTC. but for that I need your help. I want to tell the company how we feel, but the only way they might pay attention is if there are a lot of names on it protesting, not just mine. So here's my plan. I would like you to let me use your names or e-mail address so that WOTC knows I'm not the only one who feels this way. I would also like you to let me know what I should put in the letter. It has to be a group thing, not just one or two people telling how they feel. It is also not something that has to be done in a hurry. We will collect our thoughts and then send it off. Let's be honest, WOTC will probably ignore us, but we have to start somewhere. We can send a different letter to them anytime we want but we have to do it as a group. We have to let them know how we feel, or Magic as we know it will be ruined. What do you think? Is this just stupid thinking on my part, or am I on to something? Tell me how you feel, and what you think I should do. To be honest I think that we as a group could do things better then WOTC anyway. After all, it is our money, right? WOTC, if you are listening, look at this. You need to start reading Magic magazines or commentaries by people all over, and not just mine. I'd like you to learn how people really feel about the moves you make. Maybe you will finally learn how your players feel outside of your castle.
That's My View And I'm.......
