Depends on what you want to do. If you want to write, you need good writing skills, and access to a spell checker and text editor. If there are too many grammatical or spelling mistakes, we will have to send it back to you, and recommend that you visit Strunk, William. 1918. The Elements of Style to improve your writing skills. As to the different subject areas, you need to have a good understanding of what you're writing about. In plainer terms, you need to know your stuff. Get your facts right.
You need to have your piece in some form of computer graphical format, preferably gif or jpg. If you drew it on paper, then you're going to need to scan it in. Try to get your piece under 70k, as we don't want our readers to wait too long to see it. Maybe. Our editors basically proofread the articles, and correct any spelling or grammar mistakes they find. The editors may also insert small notes as needed, generally to clarify or correct something. But if you do a good job with your work, it won't need any editing!
To send articles, e-mail them to me at i***i@o***w.edu. Articles should be in ASCII format and be in the body of the e-mail; no attachments please! Also, please do not send Word, Wordperfect, etc. documents.
With the article, also please include :
Artwork uses the same guidelines as above, except that the work should be sent as an attachment in gif or jpg format.
We'll get back to you within 8 days to tell you if its been accepted or not. No. We convert the articles into HTML format for you. Yes, but only to a certain extent. The article has to fit into our general layout, so if your HTML causes problems, we may have to remove or adjust it.
Depends. If the material has been published on the internet already, then we generally won't accept it. If it hasn't, then we will accept it as long as your submitted material is not copyrighted by another organization. If it is copyrighted by another organization, you must provide us with a written authorization from that other organization to let you publish this material on our site.
Yes. You basically gives us permission to publish your work.
Yes, as long as your submitted material is not the similar to work that you're submitting to the other magazine. We try to present our readers with original material, and not stuff that has already been published or concurrently published.
Financially, no, not at this time. After paying for upkeep and maintenance costs, we do not have enough left to significantly compensate everyone. In fact, Beyond Dominia almost shut down in January 97 from the lack of funds! We do, however, offer all contributors and staff a free "pseudo" bdominia e-mail address. All mail to this address will automatically be redirected to your regular e-mail account. It's a small novelty; you could be "x***r@b***o.com" or something like that. In addition to this, we permit you to put a banner on top of your article, so you can advertise your homepage or business. You get more perks if you become a Senior Contributor.
Do one of the following :
In addition to obtaining the title "Senior Contributor", you get 1 MB of web space on the bdominia server. ASAP : ) The deadline is usually sometime between the 23rd and 26th of each month. If we decide to publish your work, you'll see it in the next issue, which generally comes out between the 5th and 7th.
Please e-mail me at i***i@o***w.edu. I will try to answer your question as promptly as I can.
